Mary Davie

My name is Mary Davie. I am the Sutherland Shire’s first Davis Dyslexia Correction® Facilitator. With a university degree in Physical Education, I am also a qualified Primary School teacher originally from Christchurch, New Zealand. After several years teaching, I returned to university to complete a Bachelor of Education and part of a Masters in Education. I have two children. When my bright son began having difficulties at school, I spent four years home schooling both children. In my quest to discover a means to help him, a friend introduced me to Ron Davis’s book, “The Gift of Dyslexia.”

I couldn’t believe what I was reading. Not only was my son perfectly described, but also many of the pupils who had had difficulties in my classroom, whose challenges, and gifts had been so perplexing. Even better, Ron’s strategies to help, covered every aspect, of every symptom, I had encountered. The big difference was coming in at the root cause, the ability to think in pictures, a low threshold for confusion, and the ability to see….. as real. When learning difficulties are accurately described from this perspective, the wide range of symptoms makes sense, and the Davis Dyslexia Correction® programme can be effective.

Needless to say my son completed a programme with a Davis Facilitator, (Lorna Timms) in Christchurch. My son has gone from strength to strength, full of confidence and self esteem. At the same time, I began the most fantastic journey of self discovery, in training to become a Davis Dyslexia Correction® Facilitator. Ron Davis himself, led my theoretical training, which was a huge privilege.

Part way through my training, our family emigrated to the Sutherland Shire in southern Sydney, Australia. I have now set up a learning strategies workshop in my own home, overlooking the tranquil Port Hacking. With peace and privacy clients can experience a 30 hour programme. This instills confidence, tools and support to correct their learning difficulties, allowing them to go on and meet their full potential in the world.
